Private House,
Clifton, Bristol

The house is formed of three parts: a two storey element built into the curved stone boundary wall with features and scale similar to the nearby coach houses, a single storey living space with a copper roof projecting into the garden, and a flat roofed, glazed link surrounding an inner courtyard. A spiral stair is set into the curved corner of the site with a rooflight above bringing light down into the entrance hall. Although traditional building materials were used externally, the interiors are contemporary with open-plan, flexible living spaces.

Garden Room, Private House,
Redland, Bristol

A flat roofed, single-storey rear extension to this elegant semi-detached Victorian home in Redland. The extension replaces an existing modern utility and provides a large highly-glazed garden room with open plan layout and deep roof overhangs, improving the connection with the garden. A new roof light brings natural light deep into the existing kitchen. Utility and WC areas were formed within the existing building, accessed from the kitchen.

Freemantle House,
Clifton, Bristol

The site is set within enclosed walls in a high density residential and conservation area of Clifton, Bristol. Award winning Freemantle House makes maximum use of the tight enclosed site. The house has been carefully planned on an ‘L’ shaped site to provide bright contemporary spaces throughout. Natural light and ventilation are brought deep into the plan with the use of courtyards and lightwells. Living accommodation is located on the lower ground floor level with tall sliding glazed doors accessing a private landscaped courtyard.

Restoration, Clifton, Bristol

This large family home is an early Victorian villa located in the heart of Clifton Conservation area in Bristol. Although the building was structurally sound, the interior was outdated and the living area on the ground floor had a poor relationship with the garden. Our brief was to provide a contemporary home whilst preserving the principle features and spirit of the existing building. An Oak pergola and store, steps and pennant patio areas were incorporated into the garden layout.

Kitchen Extension, Henleaze Gardens, Bristol

The works included the demolition of the existing kitchen and the erection of a single storey kitchen and utility to the rear of the property.

Private House,
Backwell, Bristol

The new dwellinghouse was determined by the footprint of the existing property and the topography on the site, in particular the rock face at the rear. The accommodation was turned upside down with the bedrooms at ground floor level and the living area at first floor level to take advantage of the exceptional views across the local countryside.

Extension at Brecon Road, Bristol

The removal of an existing conservatory and the construction of a new flat roofed single-storey extension with clerestory roof lantern over to direct daylight deep into the plan of the existing house. Large areas of glazing with deep overhangs offer improved connection with the garden, whilst providing summer shading.

Kitchen Extension, Pembroke Road, Bristol

The existing building is a large Victorian family home, located in the Clifton Conservation area on Pembroke Road. The previous kitchen was extremely small for a house of this size. The intention was to improve the ground floor living spaces at the rear of the building and their connection to the garden, with a replacement / extended kitchen, dining room and terrace. Daylight is introduced into the depth of the plan via roof lights.

Kitchen Extension,
Henleaze, Bristol

Alterations to the existing Grade II listed family dwelling to form a new kitchen and garden room to the rear, opening directly onto the garden. The  volume and form of the extension sought to provide a good quality living space with minimal impact upon the significant parts of the historic fabric of the building.

Single Storey Extension, Bristol

New ground floor bedroom and bathroom with wheel chair access. The architectural vocabulary matches the house built in the 1980’s. The orientation, quality of light and it’s relationship with the garden are key features.

Restoration, Private House, Clifton, Bristol

Change of use from an office building back into a family dwelling with landscaping works to the front and rear. The restoration included the repair of  all existing original features, installation of a new underfloor heating system and the addition of an external stair to improve the connection between house and garden.

Barn Conversion, WoT, Bristol

The brief was to restore and upgrade the existing house with a barn conversion to provide additional guest accommodation. High levels of insulation and energy controls were introduced to the Grade 2 listed farmhouse.  The existing double roman tiled roof together with the first floor construction has been retained and strengthened and the structure consolidated. The development preserves and enhances the character of the Westbury on Trym Conservation Area and ensures the survival of this charming listed farmhouse.
