Clifton Observatory, Bristol
Renovation, alteration and extension to the Grade II* Listed Clifton Observatory. Works included refurbishing the museum space in the tower, upgrading the roof terrace and single-storey part of the building as 'event space' , and constructing a new glazed extension to the east as a cafe.
Winner of the 2021 Bristol Civic Society Design Award.
Red Bus Nursery, Downend, Bristol
Extensions and modifications to convert the existing Grade II Listed building into a children’s day nursery, catering for children from 3 months old to pre-school.
John Wesley's Chapel, Bristol
Repairs to the roof and windows, and internal decorations of a Grade 1 Listed chapel in central Bristol. The character of the chapel is derived from its architectural, cultural and historical significance, its contribution to the townscape, and its ambience as a memorial to the Wesleys and early Methodism.
Torwood School, Redland, Bristol
New spaces created by adding a first floor over the previously converted coach house, with the insertion of a lightweight steel frame over the solid ground floor rubble walls. The oak cladding is designed as a rainscreen with highly insulated inside plastered walls. The flat roof has a deep overhang with metal fascia providing protection from the direct sunlight.
Statement of Significance,
Architects services to prepare a Statement of Significance for Bristol’s, Grade II* listed, Council House which was designed in 1933 by the architect E. Vincent Harris OBE, RA. (1876 – 1971).
Bristol Old Station, Temple Meads, Bristol
Architects services for Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for demolitions and repair to the Grade I Listed Brunel railway shed and former train buildings at Temple Meads.
New Entrance Foyer,
Sidmouth Methodist Church, Devon
The brief was to design an upgraded entrance and lobby to the existing church, with a particular requirement for disability access. It was designed to carefully contrast with the existing church building of 1885 in its use of materials and design. The new foyer incorporates the requirements of the brief, whilst forming a light and spacious entrance and meeting area. The foyer sits well within the restricted site and makes good use of the space.
The Lower Lodge,
Ashton Court, Bristol
Restoration of the early 19th Century gate house to Ashton Court Estate and conversion to provide proposed learning hub for the local community. Stage one Heritage Lottery Fund application successfully awarded funding in January 2013. Richard Pedlar Architects prepared and co-ordinated the bid alongside Architectural Heritage Fund on behalf of Bristol Building Preservations Trust and in partnership with Bristol City Council, Ashton Park School, the Malago Society and the Long Ashton Amenity Society.
Westbury on Trym Methodist Church,
Creation of a new entrance foyer to the church and community centre, and reordering the church for multi-purpose use.
Westbury on Trym Baptist Church, Bristol
The extended foyer provides an entrance hall with an area for informal gatherings and meetings. The design incorporates the continuity of space between the outside terrace, the foyer and the inside of the church. The terrace and landscaping provide access for wheelchairs.
Torwood School, Redland, Bristol
The existing garage was demolished and replaced with a new two storey building to provide additional classroom and toilet facilities for Torwood House School. The design references the bay and roof shape of the adjacent school building. A contemporary bay window on the front elevation echoes the scale of those on the adjoining terraced housing.
